Everybody will be expecting Argentina to win against Colombia, but this will be more difficult than it seems. The Argentines are always under pressure to entertain and win and this more often than not backfires. A good example of this is Argentina’s performance at last year’s World Cup when they had problems qualifying from the group, were convincingly defeated by Croatia and then eliminated by France.
Messi failing to take leadership of national team
Lionel Messi may be the best player in the world right now, but he is having trouble leading his Argentina team to glory and they haven’t won any major trophies under the guidance of the Barca star.
They have improved their form after the World Cup and have won six of their last nine matches. However, considering that these were mostly meaningless friendlies against the likes of Iraq, Guatemala, and Morocco there is not much that a betting veteran can take out from those victories.
Argentina over-rated, Colombia under-rated
Colombia on the other hand, had an excellent start to last year’s World Cup, but then were unceremoniously defeated by the English on penalties in the knockout stages. However, the type of football that they produced in the matches ahead of that England match was much better than what Argentina produced during the entirety of the World Cup. Furthermore, they won six of their last eight friendly matches and drew 0-0 with Argentina in one of those matches.
Don’t expect many goals
Based on this, we are expecting a similar outcome to that friendly draw between these two teams last year. Punters can back the game to be a nervy one and have Under 2.5 goals at odds of 8/13 while they can also bet on the Half Time/Full Time market and back the Draw – Draw option at odds of 7/2. However, the best bet if you ask us is backing the Colombians not to lose at odds of 4/6.
